Is there any way of doing one in urethane rubber, like a belt perhaps?
I am seeing lenses for my 1953 (and 54) Pontiac going for 550 bucks! I need some but I’d rather get pointed to someone who can do this, as I don’t have room in my tiny garage for this stuff. Also I would really love to see a custom made lens. The only shape that comes to mind is a skull, but I’m open to something else. It’s just what is coming up in my mind at the moment.
Love the Flux Capacitor in the background.
Excellent work Milo, can’t wait for your next piece of art.
I know this video is 5 months old. But, i was checking out your website and im really interested in how to use your high density epoxy putty (free form fire safe) for making rocks, logs, trees, branches, etc for aquariums. That sounds like a very cool product to use in a planted aquarium I'd like to do.
Does this type of silicone mold leave behind any oils or residue that could potentially damage the part underneath? Im making a mold of a part of a car and im just worried about damaging the paint surface underneath.
Thankyou, this was so helpful!
We are glad that it helped! Thanks for watching.
It scary
Thanks for watching. They did an amazing job on it.
Outstanding! Thank you.
You are very welcome!
Hi, i can mix polyurethane 90A with 70A?
Hi there! This is a good question for our tech support team, can you send them a ticket here? www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/ Thanks for watching!
Can this be used to make a mould of your body? For example, I want to make a seat out of carbon fibre that is shaped to my body for extra support. Is that possible with your products?
Hi there! This is a good question for our tech support team, can you send them a ticket here? www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/ Thanks for watching!
Can we use a pressure pot for this method to eliminate bubbles?
Yes a pressure pot will reduce any air bubbles. You will want to ensure that your mold is made under pressure as well. If the mold isn't made under pressure and cause issues.
👍👏 superbement bien réalisé ,une très jolie œuvre 🇫🇷
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Are you still out there I love the video but for the casting part do you have to attach the silicone in any way or just let them sit snug
No the keys in the silicone held the mold together, sometimes rubber bands or straps are needed.
Have you helped anyone implement this in a more high production environment? or would you recommend something else for higher production?
Absolutely. We can guide you in the right direction. Reach out to us here: www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/
could you make a mushroom? some mushrooms (like chantarelles) have deep, thin lamellae and irregular geometries, so I can imagine that it would be more difficult to make a (brush on) mold. how about a mold from a spikey chestnut burr? this seems very hard, given the thin protruding parts
Thanks for watching. Those are terrific ideas. I will pass them along to Milo!
I would add, why cast your ear? Is it to make a splendid "going out" ear?
Thanks for watching. You would do this if you want to create something that is custom to an actor or if you are making elf ears for examples.
Is it wrong that seeing someone with a giant bucket of SmoothOn products makes me smile? I just wish I had the $$$ to experience the joy for myself :P
Thank you for watching. It makes me smile too!
Having been spoiled by silicone tending not to stick to anything whatsoever, I made a rather important polyurethane mold, that encased eight sla-printed, hand-finished masters, without a release agent ...rather painful way of learning that polyurethane is an EXCELLENT adhesive. Probably my most expensive paperweight to date 😂
We are so sorry that happened. If you ever have question please reach out to our technical support team. They can help you if you ever have any questions. www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/
How and what do you use to make the fake ice
Hello, Our Rubber Glass works perfect for making fake ice. www.smooth-on.com/product-line/rubber-glass/
isnt mould spelled with a "u"?
Hi, It is spelled mold or mould. Depends what country you are in.
@@smoothon Oh, of course. Oi. i feel like I should delete the comment for being so stupid.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Holy crap! Nicely done. ✅
Thank you for watching!
Another video I watched similar to this one indicated that their product was not naturally waterproof. Is this product waterproof?
The urethane material that is poured into the mold will be waterproof as it is plastic.
@@smoothon Thanks. :)
Alien clay is alright, I wish it stuck to itself better, definitely usable
Thanks for watching and we value your feedback. I will pass it along to the team here.
other than the pressure pot, this is really helpful
Thanks for watching. Glad we could help!
Shore?
The shore hardness of the material he is using is a 70D.
Hi, thank you for the video. is this safe for the skin and health?
Hello, Thank you for watching. The alginate is skin safe.
Did you forget to add the - please remember to plug your ear in case said casting gets stuck inside the ear canal ( I know somone who did this and forgot)
Safety is always our first priority when performing a life casting. There were plugs in the model's ears.
@@smoothon I didn’t ask if the guy had earplugs , I said - you forgot to add the please use earplugs ( since we know people will copy this and have no clue in to use them when doing it .
how Hello, how long does it take for crystal clear to fully harden?
Hello, it will depend on which Crystal Clear you are using. All of the info about each on can be found on this page. www.smooth-on.com/product-line/crystal-clear/
What is the best wax to use for making candles of my sculptures? Ive tried using soy wax a couple times now and it keeps breaking when demolding. The wax gets stuck in the detail. Is there a stronger, less brittle wax?
We have seen a lot of people using Bee's wax. You could give that a small test. I have never used it.
@smoothon OK I'll try that thankyou
What clay is that being used?
Thanks for watching. In this video they are using water based clay. When picking a clay you need to make sure that the clay is sulfur free as the sulfur can cause the silicone to not cure.
@smoothon ah ok. Because I seen in another video you use sculptex soft.
Great blood! But I have some problem with some orange/red staining on the skin after removal, any tips for how to remove the blood the right way or to prevent staining on actors? :)
Thanks for watching and glad that you like the blood. We have found soap and water works. Shaving cream is a small tip to help remove the blood as well. Let the shaving cream sit on the skin so it can soak up the blood and then wipe it away.
For me and my application, this type of mold is giving me an easy demold, as the material can be streched far more, and I can work with undercuts and caverties. I love these molds. Great video, again. BTW
Thanks for watching! Cavity pour molds can be really amazing.
Bonjour, je voudrais faire moulage alginete de ma tête😊
Thanks for watching. We have a distributors around the world that can help you. www.smooth-on.com/distributor-regions/europe/ They might have someone near you that can help you with that project.
Bill is such a nice guy.... one of my heroes.
We had a ton of fun hanging out with Bill when he was here. Wish he was closer so we could work together more!
Does the silicone alao bond to silicone? Trying to glue fabric to a silicone sleeve. Should it be applied while the fabric is stretched or relaxed?
Yes silicone will bond to silicone. I would apply it when it is relaxed but I suggest some small scale tests to determine exactly what is best for your application.
Can the model be made out of wood?
Hello, thanks for watching. Yes you can use wood to make your model out of. You will need to seal the wood before making the mold. If you have further questions I suggest contacting out tech support team. They can help you with any questions you might have. www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/
😮
Thanks for watching!
Well can i use normal bones aswell with this method, i want a fossil or whatever it is
You can use a lot of things to create the impression in the clay.
What do you use to make a mold on a live hand
Hello, Thanks for watching. Here is a video on how to make a mold of a hand. ruclips.net/video/gndV6rMzR_4/видео.html
How long does it take to cure?
What material are you looking for more info about?
Why use Smooth Cast instead of something like Duo Matrix Neo? What are the pros and cons of each for cold casting?
Thanks for watching. Both materials will produce a fantastic cold casting! It will depend on what you are looking for. Neo will be heavier in weight than Smooth-Cast 325 will. Smooth-Cast allows us the ability to back fill the casting with a much lighter weight material. Neo gives a very nice finish because it is a gypsum. So it will depend what you are looking for. If you have further questions you can reach out to our technical support team. www.smooth-on.com/support/ticket/add/agree/ Thanks for watching!
did the coral need any release agent applied to stop the silicone from sticking?
No release agent was used in this project. The coral piece in the video is made out of sulfur free clay so we did not need a sealing agent or release agent for this project.
Do I have to preheat the mould?
You don't have to preheat. It is done to help reduce the pot life of the material so that he is not spending a long period of time rotationally casting. 7-10 minutes spinning a mold around can get very exhausting quickly.
I could watch you make molds all day, great content. With the mold @ 1:12:24 you could have also just tilted the base of the mold and let it cure a bit "crooked" instead of adding more material later.
When you pour a material into that mold you will have a casting that will not be level. If that doesn't matter for the piece you are making that would be a good solution. Thanks for watching!
That extra puck as a razor blade holder is actually a cool idea! Whenever I pour my ultracal I save the leftover pucks as paperweights :)
Thats a great idea too. We keep small molds around that we pour extra material into.
Hi my I ask if there's a food grade rubber molds and where can I buy it.
Hello, We have a number of food same silicone rubbers. www.smooth-on.com/applications/food-applications/
@@smoothon for example can it b used for baking? and do you ship to Canada?
I would like to see you cast the taillight lens for a 78 to 89 cadillac fleetwood brougham as I am going to have to cast some new ones for my 86 cadillac fleetwood brougham .They are very hard to find good used ones and forget about new ones.
Milo is going to be working on some new taillight lenses soon!
